John Leigh – Member Appointment

  • I have served as a Governor for over 18 years
  • I am a retired Solicitor
  • Four of my children have attended the school
  • I have a keen interest in primary and secondary education (I am a Governor at St Wilfrid’s school having held the post of Chairman of Governors for six years)

  • I am a Local Authority governor
  • I like to contribute to my community
  • I am interested in literature and language and have been a librarian in Blackburn and Australia
  • I have worked for Sure Start in Darwen and Audley before my retirement, setting up libraries in Children’s Centres

Aisha Hussain – Member Appointment Vice Chair of Governors

  • I have a personal attachment to the school – it was mine and my siblings primary school
  • My 4 children all attended Wensley Fold
  • I am a Lawyer specialising in Family law, Wills and Probate work.  I also sit as a Magistrate on the Criminal Bench
  • I have qualified as a teacher with experience in secondary education
  • I am deeply passionate  about education and child development, and enthusiastic about making a difference to my community

  • My 3 children all attended Wensley Fold
  • I have a keen interest in education.
  • I also do charity work for voluntary organisations in Blackburn
  • As a governor I will support the school and the parents to the best of my ability.

Donna Simpson – Headteacher

  • I have been Headteacher at Wensley Fold for 3 years
  • I have two children, Harry and Daisy.
  • My son Harry is in his 2nd year of sixth form and is a keen musician.
  • In my spare time I love walking with my family and dogs.
  • My husband, Paul Simpson, works as an oracy consultant in many schools in Blackburn with Darwen.

Amanda Whittingham – Assistant Headteacher

  • I am the teacher representative and have been for over 15 years
  • I particularly enjoy the role as it enables me to be involved in the governors’ decision making processes as well as the day to day running of the school
  • It is my aim to represent the balanced views of the teachers in all areas of governors’ decision making
  • My qualities are a love of children, teaching and a sense of humour!

Marrianne Morant – Teaching Assistant

  • I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for over 10 years
  • I am committed to the children at Wensley Fold
  • I have a  daughter who attended the school
  • I live within the locality of the school
  • Being a governor enables me to give something back to the school

Elaine Rae – Assistant Headteacher

  • I have been a teacher at Wensley Fold for over 20 years mainly teaching Year 4 and Year 6
  • I am a SLE (Subject Leader in Education) for maths
  • I have 2 children – a daughter and a son
  • I enjoy keeping fit by running and taking part in Zumba classes
  • I also enjoy a chance to read on holiday

Shuiab Khan

  • I have a son at Wensley Fold
  • I am presently the editor and manager of Asian Image – the North West’s largest and most widely read Asian newspaper
  • I have developed a good knowledge of the changing nature of social issues affecting our community
  • I hope to use my varied and unique skills to assist this already successful and much respected school to reach new heights

Safina Alam

  • I have three children – the youngest is 6 years old and attends Wensley Fold
  • I strive to see my children flourish and excel in education
  • I work as a principal highways engineer – engaging with developers and Consultants to negotiate major improvements to the highway network
  • I am a promoter of the child seat belt campaign
  • I have been a presiding officer at elections for 26 years
  • I have volunteered at East Lancashire Hospice – carrying out gardening work through a workplace scheme

Sadia Rafiq

  • I have a son in Year 6 at Wensley Fold
  • I have a degree in ICT
  • I am currently working as a Community Learning tutor for Blackburn with Darwen – teaching ESOL, English, ICT and family learning
  • I am interested in taking part in change for the betterment of the school and local Community

Dr. Rehana Master

  • I have been a qualified GP for 10 years
  • I work with people from various cultures, backgrounds and ages on a daily basis
  • I am passionate about children’s health, well-being and advancement of their education
  • I am used to thinking ‘outside the box’ and have a logical and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • I am a volunteer at the Scouts group

Julie McFeeley  

  • I have lived locally for nearly thirty years
  • Both of my children attended Wensley Fold Primary School, at which time I was a Parent Governor. It was during this time that I spent three years as an undergraduate myself
  • I am retired from work but can honestly say I am never bored
  • I have a great personal belief that access to good quality education and personal development is a fundamental right and feel that my appointment as a governor will allow me to contribute to the development of that belief within my community.
